Alcohol and Snoring

Although 40% of the world’s population snores, not many of them know the underlying causes of snoring and the solutions to cure the problem.

Obesity, alcohol consumption and smoking are mainly responsible for alcohol. Here we take a look at how alcohol can cause snoring.

People drink alcohol for relaxation after a stressful day. Alcohol causes the relaxation of our body’s muscles much more than daily sleep. As your muscles are more relaxed after you drink, your orophanyx (the back of your throat) starts collapsing very quickly and block the air flow. Alcohol can also cause congestion in the nasal passages which can cause another obstruction for your proper breathing.

If you can, DON’T DRINK.

It will not only reduce your snoring, but also that drinking excessively can be harmful to your health.

The least you can do is not to drink 4 - 6 hours before sleeping. This time gap will allow the effects of alcohol to wean off and limit its effects on your sleep, thus allowing you to sleep without snoring.

Sedatives like sleeping pills act in the similar manner like alcohol and magnify the effect if you take them with your drinks. They help the muscles of your body to relax and bring about the same symptoms as alcohol.

Snoring not only harms you, but according to studies your spouse, or significant other, have to forfeit an hour of sleep each night. This makes them ‘cranky’ in the morning and can also destroy your relationship.

So, if not for yourself – do it for your loved ones!
