Snoring Surgery

Snoring surgery should be used only if all other methods have been used without any success. Mostly, it is suitable in instances of severe snoring. It is used for:

- Eliminating extra soft tissue from the throat to increase the width of the upper airway. It can include removing the tonsils, adenoids and other tissues present at the back of the throat (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty).

- Rectify a wrongly shaped wall (septum) found between the nostrils or nasal polyps that obstruct airflow through the nose.

- Alter the location of the bony structures in the upper airway, helping free flow of air, especially while sleeping. Multiple surgeries may be required to incorporate these changes.

- The options for snoring surgery are:

- Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty to eliminate extra tissues in the throat. This makes the air way wider helping free flow of air.

- Laser-Assisted Uvuloplatoplasty also eliminates redundant tissues by using laser.

- Radiofrequency Palatoplasty is a modern procedure that reduces and stiffens the back tissues of the mouth to halt the vibrations with the help of electrical current.

- Removal of the tonsils and adenoids can also be carried out to get rid of those tissues obstructing the air ways.

- Nasal septoplasty rectifies and straightens the bone and tissues (septum) dividing the two passages in the nose. This procedure is carried out if a nasal deformity disrupts breathing.

- Nasal polypectomy does away with soft, round tissues (polyps) that can penetrate the nasal passages.
