Stop Snoring Through Singing
One of the various options to prevent snoring is surgery. Since it an invasive method, it should be regarded as the last resort, only if the other options are not yielding the expected results. One optional method that you can consider is singing.
A study conducted in the United Kingdom aimed to find out if singing exercises were effective in strengthening the palate, making it less flabby and hence less likely to vibrate. Lower vibration implies reduced chances of snoring. The sleeping and snoring patterns of 20 people who snored every night were regulated for 7 successive nights. The voice recording of the snores was also carried out. Then the participants were taught singing and voice exercises. These exercises were performed for 20 minutes daily for a period of 3 months. The participants observed marked improvements after the trial was over.
This study was carried out because a drama therapist obtained the same results by using singing exercises to help a snoring friend. The drama therapist advised him to exercise his palate.
She later introduced do-it-yourself program, consisting of 3 CDs meant to exercise the soft palate and throat areas. The program concentrates on exercises that make these muscles stronger and is correctly called as Singing for Snorers.
But there are some drawbacks of this program. It is suitable if you begin snoring later in life, don’t carry extra weight and don’t suffer from physical nasal or throat blockages. So it is suitable if you don’t have any polyps or throat issues.
Moreover, this program expects you to work out your vocal chords everyday. If you love signing, sticking to a regular exercise schedule is simple.
